Family Therapy

Families change. Kids grow up, relationships shift, and the dynamics that once worked can start to feel strained. Whether you're navigating conflict between family members, adjusting to a major life transition, or trying to reconnect after a period of distance, family therapy offers a space to slow down and understand each other again.

I work with families of all configurations, parents and children, siblings, blended families, and chosen family to address relational patterns that keep showing up. Family therapy isn't about assigning blame. It's about understanding how each person's experience fits into the larger picture, and building healthier ways to communicate, support one another, and move forward together.

Sessions are available in-person in Wilmington, NC or virtually to anyone located in North Carolina.

Who Is Family Therapy For?

Family therapy can help when:

  • Communication has broken down or conversations regularly turn into conflict

  • A major life change (divorce, remarriage, relocation, illness, loss) has disrupted family dynamics

  • Siblings or family members are struggling to understand one another

  • A family member's mental health, behavior, or life transition is affecting the whole household

  • Old wounds or unspoken tension keep resurfacing

  • You want to strengthen your family's connection before things become more difficult

My Approach to Family Therapy

I work from a family systems foundation, which means I look at the family as a whole not just the "identified problem" or the person who initiated therapy. Every family member's experience matters, and everyone's perspective is welcomed into the room.

Together, we'll identify the patterns that keep your family stuck, build communication skills that actually work outside the therapy room, and create a plan that reflects your family's specific needs and values. This is collaborative work , I'm not here to tell your family what's "right," but to help you find what works for you.

What to Expect

Family therapy sessions are typically held weekly or bi-weekly, depending on your family's needs. Depending on what's happening, we may meet with the full family together, with specific sub-groups (such as a parent and one child), or a combination of both over time.

Sessions are 50–60 minutes and can be held in-person at my Wilmington office or virtually for families located anywhere in North Carolina.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the whole family need to attend every session? Not necessarily. Depending on what we're working on, some sessions may involve the full family, while others may focus on specific relationships within the family. We'll figure out the right structure together.

What age range do you work with? I work with families that include children, teens, and adults. If younger children are involved, we'll talk through the best way to include them in a way that's appropriate for their age.

Do you accept insurance for family therapy? I'm in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) and Aetna, and I'm happy to submit in-network claims for clients who meet insurance criteria. Reach out and I can help you understand your options.

How is family therapy different from couples or individual therapy? Family therapy focuses specifically on relational dynamics between family members, rather than one person's individual experience or a couple's relationship. If your primary concern is your marriage or partnership, couples therapy may be a better starting point.

If your family is ready to reconnect and communicate in healthier ways, I'd be honored to help guide that process..
